Pastore Peak Climbing Expedition Itinerary
Expand AllDay 1: Arrive at Islamabad International Airport, Islamabad (590m)
On this day, our guests will be welcomed and received by our guides at Islamabad International Airport in Islamabad. The guides can be easily identified as they will be holding placards displaying our company's logo and the names of our guests. It is important for our guests to provide us with their flight details for both their inbound and outbound journeys at least five days prior to their arrival in Pakistan. Our staff or guide will meet the guests at the international arrivals gate, unless they are arriving from another city within Pakistan on a connecting flight. The guide or staff member will then transfer the guests to our partner hotel.
Once the guests have had lunch and some rest at the hotel (preferably if they arrive between 9 am and 12 pm in the morning), our guide or representative will pick them up at around 6 pm. The purpose of this pickup is to provide a briefing about the trip and to handle any remaining payments at our office. Following the briefing, a dinner will be arranged for the guests. If any guests are arriving late, we will make arrangements to handle the remaining payments and conduct the briefing in Skardu.

Day 2: Fly to Skardu, Karakoram (2,498m)
Morning: After a restful night at the hotel, we will start the day early. Our guide will accompany you to Islamabad International Airport for your domestic flight to Skardu. The flight offers breathtaking views of the magnificent Karakoram range.
Arrival in Skardu: Upon landing at Skardu Airport, our team will be there to greet you. Skardu is located in the heart of the Karakoram Mountains, offering stunning landscapes and a gateway to various adventure destinations.
Hotel Check-in: We will transfer you to your designated hotel in Skardu. Take some time to settle in and unwind after the flight. The hotel provides a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, allowing you to rejuvenate before exploring the region.

Day 3: Leisure Day in Skardu (2,598m)
On this day, following breakfast, the participants will embark on a walk to Kharpocho Fort in Skardu. Situated on a mountain, the fort offers magnificent panoramic views of the Indus River and the town of Skardu. Additionally, participants will have the opportunity to visit Sadpara Lake and enjoy some leisure time for shopping at Skardu Bazaar. While the participants engage in sightseeing activities, our staff will handle the necessary government documentation required in Skardu. It is important to note that this process may sometimes take up to two days. To accommodate any potential delays, we have allocated contingency days towards the end of the expedition

Day 4: Drive to Jhola
The participants will commence their jeep safari towards Daso, passing through the scenic Shigar valley. The route will follow alongside the Braldu River, leading to Askole. Askole marks the final village on our path, where the participants will transition from jeeps to walking. However, depending on the road conditions, there may be instances where the participants begin their walk before reaching Askole. The estimated duration to cover the distance up to Skardu ranges from six to eight hours. It is important to note that the road has recently been extended up to Jhola and Paiju, with ongoing construction and maintenance work. As a result, slight modifications to the itinerary may be necessary to accommodate this factor.

Day 5: Trek from Jhola to Paiju along the Braldu River
On this day of the K2 base camp trek, participants will embark on a captivating journey following the Braldu Gorge, alongside the enchanting banks of the Braldu River. This scenic route offers participants a remarkable opportunity to witness the astonishing Trango Tower and Cathedral Peak, renowned for their majestic rock formations. However, participants must take precautions against potential sunburns, as walking conditions can be dry and hot during this leg of the trek. Throughout the trek, participants will encounter several streams flowing down from glaciers into the valley. Depending on water levels, participants may need to wear river crossing shoes for safe passage. On a clear day, participants will be able to spot the Baltoro Glacier snout, adding to the awe-inspiring sights along the route. The day concludes with participants ascending from the riverbank, reaching Paiju Camp. This marks the last campsite adorned with trees for the foreseeable future.

Day 6: Rest and acclimatize in Paiju
On this day, participants will dedicate their time to acclimatization and rest at Paiju Camp, situated at 3,418 meters. Acclimatization is a crucial process that allows the body to adapt to higher altitudes, reducing altitude-related illnesses. Participants must take this opportunity to acclimate to the changing altitude and ensure their well-being throughout the trek. While the participants rest and acclimatize, the porters will bake bread that will sustain them during the upcoming week on the glacier. This preparation is necessary to ensure a steady supply of food for the porters throughout the trek. Additionally, participants can embark on an acclimatization walk towards Paiju Peak's base camp. This walk serves as an opportunity to further acclimate to the altitude while enjoying breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and landscapes.

Day 7: Trek from Paiju to Khoburse
On this day, participants will face a challenging trek as they travel from Paiju to Khoburse. The journey becomes increasingly remarkable with each step, as the scenery transforms into a breathtaking display of natural beauty along the snout of the Baltoro Glacier. The trail entails continuous ups and downs, navigating through the glacial moraine. While the trail is generally safe, participants must exercise caution at all times. The terrain may be uneven and demanding, requiring participants to remain vigilant and mindful of their surroundings. As participants progress, they will be rewarded with awe-inspiring views of prominent landmarks such as the Trango Tower and Uli Biaho. These stunning vistas testify to the majestic allure of the region, making the trek all the more captivating.

Day 8: Trek from Khoburse to Urdukas
On this particular day, participants will have the opportunity to witness the magnificent Trango Towers as they traverse two small glaciers. As the day ends, the participants will halt their journey and camp at Urdukas, located near the army camp. The campsite sits approximately 100 meters above the glacier, providing an excellent vantage point for participants. From the campsite, participants can take in the stunning view of the Trango Towers illuminated by the setting sun. After dinner, participants can share stories and reflect on the day’s events as they settle in for the night.

Day 9: Trek from Urdukas to Goro II
On this particular day of the K2 base camp trek, participants will navigate through the glacier heart. The route will follow the medial moraine, offering breathtaking views of Masherbrum (7821m) to the south. The terrain will involve continuous ascents and descents along the rocky moraine, while also passing colossal ice sheets. Goro II will serve as the campsite for the night, situated at the convergence of Baltoro Glacier and Younghusband Glacier. This location marks the first overnight stay on Baltoro Glacier. It is worth noting that temperatures may drop significantly during this time. As participants settle in, they will witness the awe-inspiring sights of Masherbrum and Muztagh Tower in all their grandeur.

Day 10: Trek to Concordia
On this particular day of the K2 base camp trek, participants will travel to Concordia by steadily ascending the moraine. Along the way, they will be treated to an increasingly breathtaking display of towering snow-capped peaks. The highlight of the day will be the awe-inspiring sighting of K2, the pinnacle of the trek. Additionally, participants will gaze at other notable peaks such as Broad Peak, Mitre Peak, Gasherbrum, Sia Kangri, and numerous others. At Concordia, the group will take a break and enjoy a picnic lunch before beginning the descent. They will finish the day with a sense of accomplishment and a newfound appreciation of the beauty of nature.

Day 11: Trek to Broad Peak BC, Gilkey Memorial and K2 Base Camp
On this day, participants will have a remarkable opportunity to ascend the Godwin-Austen glacier towards the Art Gilkey Memorial, situated just before reaching K2 Base Camp. This day promises unparalleled beauty. Departing early in the morning, we will traverse the glacier and follow a faint, rocky trail leading towards K2. As we progress along the glacier, the majestic mountain looms larger and more awe-inspiring. To our right, Broad Peak rises prominently, and after approximately three hours, we pass Broad Peak base camp. This is usually where we pause for a lunch break, before continuing our journey with K2 towering above us, drawing nearer with each step. Amidst the landscape strewn with boulders and ice, just before reaching base camp, we encounter the Art Gilkey Memorial. A brief scramble brings us to a site dedicated to those whose lives were claimed by K2. Plaques and engraved tin plates are affixed to a small rocky outcrop at the base of this magnificent mountain. Directly above us, we see breathtaking views of K2, and if we are lucky, we may witness climbing expeditions in progress. Our overnight stay will be at K2's base camp, immersing us in the awe-inspiring surroundings of this legendary peak.

Day 12: Trek to Pastore Base Camp
On this particular day, our journey retraces its steps from K2 base camp. We set our sights on Pastore Peak, situated southeast of K2 and east of Broad Peak. To reach Pastore Peak base camp, we embark on a trail that crosses the vast Godwin Austen Glacier. This glacier crossing presents its own set of challenges and rewards, as we navigate through its icy terrain. As we approach Pastore Peak, the landscape unveils stunning vistas and the ever-present grandeur of the surrounding peaks. The trail may require careful navigation due to the glacier's dynamic nature, with crevasses and seracs dotting the icy landscape. It is essential to maintain a vigilant and cautious approach during glacier crossings. Upon reaching Pastore Peak Base Camp, located at an elevation of 4,800 meters, we are surrounded by the awe-inspiring beauty of the Karakoram Range. This campsite serves as our temporary refuge, providing a tranquil and scenic setting amidst the majestic peaks. Here, we can rest, rejuvenate, and immerse ourselves in the breathtaking surroundings, preparing for the next leg of our expedition.

Day 13-15: Climb Pastore Peak (6,209m)
On this day, participants will have the opportunity to challenge themselves on the ascent of Pastore Peak. This is an excellent choice for aspiring mountaineers seeking their first Karakoram trekking peak. This remarkable peak holds a prime location, positioned at the vertex of a triangle formed by K2 and Broad Peak. While prior experience with crampons and ice axes is minimal, the adventure awaits is unparalleled. The summit climb typically takes around 10 hours from base camp. Our experienced climbing guides will carefully evaluate various factors, including weather conditions, participant health, and team dynamics. This will determine the most appropriate approach to the ascent. Depending on these considerations, the guide may opt for rest and acclimatization or push for the summit. Safety and team spirit will be of the utmost importance in every decision made. For those participants who prefer not to attempt the peak at this point, there is ample opportunity to relax and revel in the awe-inspiring scenery that surrounds the base camp. There is nothing more serene and enjoyable than enjoying the majestic vistas of the Karakoram, even if you do not attempt to reach the summit. Day 16: Contingent (in case of bad weather)
On this particular day, at an altitude of 4,800 meters, we have added an additional day to our itinerary. This is a precautionary measure to account for potential adverse weather conditions. While we have allowed ample time for the climbing endeavor, this extra day acts as a buffer to accommodate any unexpected changes in weather patterns. Mountaineering expeditions are often subject to nature's whims, and the Karakoram region is no exception. Unpredictable weather can pose challenges and necessitate adjustments to our plans. By incorporating this contingency day into our schedule, we demonstrate a proactive approach to ensuring our climb's safety and success. During this additional day, our team will remain vigilant, monitoring weather updates and consulting with our experienced guides. Their expertise and judgment will play a crucial role in assessing the prevailing conditions and making informed decisions regarding our climbing activities. Day 17: Rest on the way back to Concordia
On this particular day, our journey involves retracing our steps from Pastore Base Camp to Concordia. This leg of the trek serves as a transition as we return to the renowned Concordia junction. It provides an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments and experiences of our ascent while preparing for the upcoming stages of the expedition. During this day, participants will retrace their familiar path, traversing the terrain they previously crossed on their way to Pastore Base Camp. As we return, we can appreciate the breathtaking landscapes and awe-inspiring vistas that surround us. The familiar sights remind us of the Karakoram Range's remarkable beauty and grandeur. Upon arriving at Concordia, we will enjoy the rest day that follows. This day serves as a much-needed rejuvenation opportunity, allowing participants to recharge their energy levels and prepare for the upcoming journey. It is a chance to recover from physical exertion and reflect on the challenges and triumphs encountered thus far.

Day 18: Trek to Ali Camp
On this particular day, participants will embark on a slightly different and less traversed route. To ensure safety and avoid crevasses, strategic detours will be taken, guiding participants away from hazardous areas. Rather than walking on slippery ice, they will navigate rugged ice terrain, providing better traction and stability. Snowfall will cause both participants and porters to walk together, wearing crampons for enhanced safety. They will remain connected through a secure rope system.
After a challenging hike of approximately 5-6 hours, the base camp known as "Ali Camp" will be reached. The camp derives its name from a local porter, Ali, who was the first to successfully cross the Gondogoro La Pass. Upon arrival at Ali Camp, participants will have the opportunity to rest and prepare for the following day's endeavors.
At Ali Camp, valuable time will be dedicated to imparting essential skills to the participants, specifically geared towards the forthcoming crossing of the Gondogoro La Pass. These skills, imparted by experienced guides, will equip participants with the necessary knowledge and techniques to navigate the challenges ahead. The focus will be on fostering competence and confidence among the participants, ensuring their preparedness for the upcoming adventure.

Day 19: Trek to Khuspang over Gondogoro La
On this particular day, participants will commence their activities early, awakening as early as 2 am. Following preparations and breakfast, the participants, united as a cohesive unit and roped together, will embark on their journey towards the Gondogoro La base. Depending on the circumstances, our support crew will be present to fix ropes and provide equipment guidance. It typically takes approximately 3 hours to reach the summit of Gondogoro La Pass. This offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the four esteemed 8000ers in the Baltoro region: K2, G1, Broad Peak, and G2. During the descent on the other side of the pass, the use of fixed ropes becomes imperative. In addition, the use of crampons is essential to ensure the safety of all participants. As the descent progresses, the awe-inspiring sight of the enchanting and sword-shaped Laila Peak (6,096m) comes into view, accompanied by glimpses of other magnificent peaks forming the Trinity. The day camp will be established at the convergence of the Gondogoro and Trinity Glaciers, a junction known as Khuispang (4,600m).

Day 20: Trek to Saicho
On this designated day, the participants will continue their descent, transitioning from the challenging terrain of the ascent to a easier hike. As they descend downhill, climbing equipment, including ropes and crampons, will be carefully packed away, no longer required for the journey. The rugged mountainous landscape gradually gives way to Hushe Valley's verdant greenery, creating a striking contrast.
Following a rejuvenating lunch break, the participants will resume their hike towards the edge of the Gondogoro Glacier. Upon reaching this precipice, they will encounter a distinct trail that leads them into a breathtaking valley adorned with vibrant rhubarb and lush grasses. The natural splendor of the surroundings provides a serene backdrop as the journey unfolds.
The day's camp will be established at Saicho (3,350m), an area characterized by sandy terrain adorned with scattered patches of grass. The soothing sounds of flowing glacier streams add to the campsite's tranquil ambiance. Here, participants can unwind, appreciate the serene surroundings, and replenish their energy in preparation for their remarkable journey.

Day 21: Trek to Hushe Village and drive to Skardu town
On this day, This day, the participants will trek down the river stream of melting glacier water from Charakusa, Ailling, Masherbrum, and Gondogoro Glaciers in only 3-4 hours. Participants will see signs of residences, shelters, fields and signs of people living.
The participants will experience the 02 storey shelters of the Hushe village. The ground floor is for cattle and the first floor is for living. After setting up the camp, participants can explore the scenic hushe valley and interact with the locals. This is the last camping day of the Gondogoro La Trek.
Upon reaching Hushe, the participants will depart for Skardu town from Hushe. The journey offers many beautiful scenes of the different small village of the Hushe Valley. The participants will cross a suspension bridge above the Shyok River (which flows from Ladakh, India) to reach the other side.
In the past traditional rafts made of goat skin filled with air were used to navigate the river. The suspension bridge which is now used for crossing the river was built in the 1990's. Upon crossing the bridge, the participants will reach Khaplu.
On the way from Khaplu to Skardu, follow the paved road along the Shayok river, which leads to the confluence with the Indus river. The participants should be able to reach Skardu in 4 hours after driving along the Indus River. The participants can have facilities which they did not have for 02 weeks. The first on that list would be taking a hot shower and then having a delicious meal.

Day 22: Rest & Contingency day in Skardu.
On this designated day, we have allocated time to accommodate any unforeseen delays that may arise during the trekking journey. Our utmost priority is to ensure that our guests do not miss their domestic flights due to unexpected circumstances, such as roadblocks or other factors that may cause delays. This additional time can be utilized for sightseeing opportunities in Skardu, allowing our guests to explore and appreciate the beauty of the surroundings.

Day 23: Fly to Islamabad
On this designated day, participants will begin their journey by flying from Skardu Airport to Islamabad Airport. Upon arrival in Islamabad, participants will be able to unwind and rejuvenate at a comfortable hotel, allowing for much-needed relaxation.
It is important to note that domestic flights may be cancelled or delayed due to adverse weather conditions. In the event of a flight cancellation, our contingency plan entails a scenic drive to the town of Chilas. Here, the participants will spend the night. This overland journey typically takes approximately eight to ten hours, providing an opportunity to appreciate picturesque landscapes along the way.
We prioritize the safety and comfort of our participants. Our experienced team will ensure that alternative arrangements are made to accommodate any unexpected circumstances, ensuring a smooth journey.

Day 24: Contingency day for flight cancellations
On this designated day, we have allocated time to account for any potential delays that may arise. This is if the domestic flight was not operational the previous day. In such a scenario, our guests will depart from Chilas to Islamabad in the early morning, and the journey can take up to ten hours.
However, if the participants successfully arrive in Islamabad on a scheduled domestic flight, this day will be free for their leisure. They can utilize this time to engage in sightseeing activities and explore the attractions of Islamabad.

Whether it involves the continuation of the journey from Chilas to Islamabad or enjoying a day of sightseeing in Islamabad, our team will make necessary arrangements to accommodate any changes and ensure a memorable and enjoyable experience for our participants.
